Welcome!

DA has so many wonderfully talented writers and artists in the community. Some are well known, others not so much. Each week, I feature several on my front page boxes, hoping they can bask in the glow of the spotlight for a bit. The topics and genres vary, but each are gems in their own right.

Here are last week's picks!

Flash Fiction Writers

A Flash Fiction is defined as a story extreme in brevity, usually ranging from 300 to 1,000 words. At times called a 'short short story,' it tells a lot in few words.

I couldn't decide if I should laugh, or cringe. She did such a nice job of turning a well known tale on it's ...er... head, so to speak. The fruit lines had me cracking up. The imagery is so clear and concise, a well painted picture. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was a bit sad when it came to its short end. However, the last line was brilliant.

This piece had me intrigued from the beginning. I find the disjointed way it's written, the strange and separate tones you use gives off a distinct way of thinking. And the ending was a brilliant, unexpected twist.

Drawing you in from the beginning, the words written here do exactly as the title suggests. There is a sense of overwhelming sadness and nostalgia at times. Each emotion beautifully brought into a stark light.

When I reread this again, I was struck by the brilliancy such short lines can display.  She has given us glimpses of things, scenes, emotions, and draws our focus on what we might not have otherwise noticed.

Glorious Games

With the arrival of Ori and the Blind Forest last week, I found myself drawn to artwork of other games. And there is no shortage of the amazing here on DA. Take a peek!

League of Legends has gorgeous characters, even if I find the game to be...repetitive. Karthus is amazing here... so Creepy and yet cool.

Ori and the Blind Forest

Ori... is just wow. If you haven't seen anything for Moon Studio's debut release, you should check it out. Ori looks wonderfully lovely. The artist has captured him very well and with stunning colors that well matches the original art work we have seen.

An oldie, but goodie game. I remember the original Metroid... and she certainly didn't look like this! Besides being an awesome picture, the tone, lighting and colors are beautifully done. The play of shadows adds a sense of mystery and sensuousness.

Axel's Sacrifice

I cried buckets when I first played KH2,  and 358/2 Days was even worse. But I guess we shouldn't be surprised? It is in the same vein as FF.
The artist did a wonderful job capturing the sadness of that scene here. And the black and white adds to the solemness.

Please stop by their galleries and take a look at what else they have to offer.
My thanks to the lovely writers and artists who have provided us with such gems.

And if you know of someone who deserves the spotlight, please let me know!
